Empty is a word I would use to describe the Country Pancake House when we got there. It was a Thursday around 10am but to be the only people in a restaurant is funny. Everything in Florida seems to be in a shopping center of some sort. This place was no different, but the shopping center was very nice. Lots of money went into that place. There are news clippings and such all over the walls when you first walk in for their enormous pancakes. They are huge....I mean really. Who needs a pancake the size of a steering wheel. The menu has the most selections of pancakes and french toast I've ever seen so if you are a fan of the two...it is heaven. I had the French Toast with banana and macadamia nuts. My wife had bacon, eggs, hash browns and pancakes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Man when the food showed up I couldn't believe the size of the servings. Who eats this much food?? The 3 pieces of French toast were each 2 inch thick Challah bread with healthy scoops of toppings...and not the good healthy. It was great but I only finished 1 1/2 of them and I started to get dizzy. My wife just laughed at her food. The 2 "small" pancakes that came as a side for her were bigger then the plate. The pile of hash browns, which were good could have been split between 3 people. The service was good and the food was plenty but that much food to me is a waste when your normal person can maybe get down half of it.

Took forever to get a table when 1/2 the dining room was empty. However, I gotta say there is plenty to choose from... maybe too many options.

Food is mediocre and too much of it. Its a very wasteful company. I have been twice now and wont be back. Also too much to choose from. That may sound like a weird complaint but you will understand if you go. Its worth a try but I wouldnt expect much.

I met some co-workers for breakfast here the other day. IT is not our usual place but close to a meeting we were all going to. First bad indicator, 7:30 on a friday and the place was empty. There were three old guys in a corner, but that as it. The second bad sign, all the had written signs about extra charges for splitting things and extras that all seem a bit mean spirited and short sighted. Plus, hand printed on construction paper! We ordered. 40 minutes later, in an empty restaurant we got our food. NO HUMAN SHOULD BE SERVED THIS MUCH FOOD! I had a ham and cheese omelet. I swear it must have been made with 7 eggs! (the waitress indicated it was at least 6) There is nothing on the menu to indicate this huge size that I could find. Who can eat 7 egg omelet? Even If I was going to go work the farm, dig a ditch, and heard cattle all day I couldn't eat this much. But that wasn't the end. I also got a mammoth size portion of home fries, where were bland and tasteless even though they had a red color you might get with paprika, there was no flavor. But wait there is more! Two pancakes about 7 or 8" in diameter were also served with my omelet. Again, if I had seen this in the menu I would NOT have ordered this. The four of use could have shared one meal it was so big. Now, I will say what I did eat of the omelet and pancakes were good. How you can cook an omelet like this and not destroy it, so there is some skill back in the kitchen. But I have no idea how you cook an omelet 2" thick and not over cook it, but they didn't so that is the only reason they are not getting 1 star. Maybe this is why it took 40 minutes for our food, however. I know there are those out there that want more for their buck, but I can't help but wonder how much food this place throws away each day because of these crazy portions. And the waste of it all made me sick. And all of our meals were huge like this! I eat maybe 1/5 of what I was served. The menu has way too many things on it as well. My advice, you have a good product, but make your portions normal sized, adjust the price and take down all those hand written notes about how splitting food is an extra charge! You might not be empty in the morning anymore.

Would rate them less than one star if I could!! I was literally told not to come back after I questioned the 5! separate overcharges to our bill. Wasn't enough to argue before we even questioned the bill, the staff made a point to make a scene when we didn't just pay the outrageous overcharges. Can't believe this place is still in business. I live just around the corner and sure enough all of my neighbors had similar encounters and steer clear of this horrendous place.

The food is okay here--what you would expect for breakfast. this is more of an ethical review. The amount of food they serve is over the top and in my opinion shameful because of the amount of waste. Most people walk out with a Styrofoam to go or have to leave incredible amounts of food on the plate. My advice--make the portions smaller and concentrate more on the quality.

Largest breakfast portions I've ever seen at any breakfast place - ever. Our party of 5, that included 3 hungry men, ended up with boxes of food to take home. While my veggie omelet was good (nothing spectacular but decent), I was barely able to make a dent in it and took the majority of the meal home. I enjoyed the chocolate chip corn bread that came before our meal, but it really was unnecessary since we were about to be served pounds of food. This place loses points as the service was lackluster. Our server seemed to disappear towards the end of our meal, leaving us to have to go find someone to get us the bill. I would return again if I was absolutely starving and in the mood for a giant meal.

Best French Toast I've tasted! The menu is vast and overwhelming, but there is something for everyone. Portions are very generous, and there has been 'take home' both times I have been at Country Pancake House for breakfast due to the size of the portions. They serve corn bread while you wait, some plain, some with chocolate chips. Service has been very pleasant and quick, especially considering the menu and the time of day I have been there, which both times has been Sunday morning right before church lets out. We have had a 15 minute wait each time, but it's is worth the wait, and there is usually a gator out in the pond that can entertain the kids (from afar) if you have any. He seems to hang out there regularly. Well worth a visit. (And the owner has been there each time I have been there, and that's a big plus IMHO.) She even brought out a numbing spray for my sister's grandson who had been stung by a bee earlier.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE....and by the way did I also mention nasty?? Three of us (2 adults, 1kid) were about to be seated right next to the hostess table with lots of foot traffic. When we noticed an open table further away from all the activity, and very politely asked if we could possibly be seated there instead, a very rude lady told us that this was the table that she had set up for us...if we didn't like it and wanted the other table, then we would have to get back into the wait area and wait to be called. And by the way, if someone happened to be seated ahead of us, that was our loss. For some reason we decided to take the abuse and wait for the table; when we finally sat down (she did make us wait) we asked the nice waitress who we could talk to, she mentioned that the original lady was the owner... That did it...we just got up and left...First Watch and Broken Egg are very close and at least for us, a much better option. No one needs this kind of abuse.

Talk about negative! Read the pros & cons but cons rule the roost. Had the buckwheat pancakes ( which they were not) and the omelette with "home fries" which were pure garbage. I give this place a near term (end of lease) bankruptcy. If you like a plate full of "stuff" this may be your place but for quality the rating is negative.

Been to this establishment several times and always make it a habit to stop by when visiting the Sarasota area. Why? Simply because I was a fan of their Ridgewood, NJ location. The servings are huge and the food always tastes delicious. There are tons of omelettes and other items to choose from. They also have many freshly squeezed juices. Did I forget to mention their freshly baked corm muffins...I'm not even a corn muffin fan and these make me seriously reconsider.

This place has such a huge menu that it will take you at least 30 minutes to look it over if you are a first timer. It's a great place to visit on a Saturday or Sunday to relax while having breakfast with just yourself and the Sunday paper or a family of ten. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's a place you keep going back too, just to try different items on the menu. Their servings are on steroids! Plenty for sharing. I LOVE THEIR CREPES! They have a seafood crepe that I have never been disappointed with. Their french toast is delicious. I could go on and on. There are too many items to go over, I suggest going their one weekend and trying it out for yourself. I am sure you will go back for more.

Not sure how this place is still open? Ridiculously and wastefully huge portions. When I go late morning or during lunch hour it is usually nearly empty. Owner not very friendly. Customer service does not seem a priority. Why are you in this business? Have been 4 or 5 times. Much prefer Station 400 nearby for the same money.

I started hearing about "the pancake place" long before I ever moved to FL. My boyfriend and his med school friends found it last year and frequented it often. The first time he took me, I was so overwhelmed by the menu that I had to just order the eggs platter because I couldn't wrap my head around the billion choices on the menu. I quickly learned that these people are serious about pancakes. My platter came with two that were the size of a plate. If you order one of the hundred some odd pancake flavors they offer, you can have 4 "medium" (and by that I mean dinner plate size) or 2 "large" which are about the size of my steering wheel. I've tried bites of fruit filled and chocolate chip pancakes while there with people and they've all really good. Not being a big pancake person myself, I usually opt for the french toast now. It's awesome. Three huge slices, and they actually re-heat well (I can only eat one piece in a sitting). I've never had any issues with the service here. The woman who runs it recognizes my boyfriend now and always says hi and talks to us when we come in. The servers are nice, and while perhaps not overly attentive, I actually prefer that. Sometimes we might have to wait a second to get something, but I've never felt like we were neglected. Granted we usually go around 1pm on Saturday or Sunday (we're not morning people), but there are always several other tables of people there and it seems like they get things out pretty timely. But I guess you can't please everyone.

Will NEVER eat here again.- we ordered a salad to go- the Mesclun salad with grilled blacked chicken and it had raw chicken on it. when we took the salad back to show them, the rude lady who runs the place said there was not "enough" raw chicken to give us back our money.- Then after talking about this at work I found out that this has happended to three other people.- and she refused to give them back there money and also made them leave the resturant as well.- I will be contacting the better business bureau, and the health department next.

Food was okay. The manager went out of her way to be rude and downright "evil". If you want to feel like you are being done an amazing service for the privilege of being served, it's the place to go. Otherwise, stay away! I and my friends will never go back.

Not delicious! Too many options, pancakes tasted manufactured and didn't hold together, and the eggs Benedict had a very wet soggy English muffin and insipid sauce. Go to first watch around the corner for a meal 100% better!!!

This restaurant rocks! It has the most extensive menu--particularly of pancakes--that I've ever seen. Because of the sheer volume of food that they bring out for each dish, I often find myself taking out of town guests to visit the place to amaze them. I love that I can get a $6.95 plate of pancakes that provides me with several days of yummy leftovers. I have yet to find a pancake on the menu that I didn't like. Also, it's worth noting that they have a dinner menu that's also versatile and delicious. The pancake house is definitely a place worth visiting.

Pancakes are masive! However taste bad. French toast is huge and best I have had. Enough for 2-3 people. Other breakfasts are large and just ok. Free cornbread is usually very good and the sweet cream butter is too good. My biggest issues are as follows and I hope they see this and make changes Often they have the doors open. I know they think this is welcoming however patrons that live in lwr don't like this or at least I don't visit any place with the door open and have chosen other options when I drive by and see the doors open. Next it seems there is tension or something odd when you are there. Go and you will see what I mean. Overall I would give them 5 stars just for the French toast with 30 different topping options. Pancakes 1 star due to flavor 5 stars for size but I would rather have small tasty pancakes.

I find it rather odd that we've lived about a mile from Country Pancake House for the last 6 months and we only just tried it today. I also find it odd that there are so many negative reviews out there complaining about the vast number of options on the menu or the huge quantities of food. I, as opposed to a lot of the complainers, do not find large portions at a fair price to be wasteful. I find them to make an excellent second meal out of take-home leftovers which is perfectly acceptable to me. The entire first page is covered in pancake choices. Wow. I suppose it was a bit overwhelming, but they all sounded amazing. I decided that this kind of carb overload would need to be a reward for a 6 mile run, and not just a normal Sunday morning breakfast. Note to self: make sure to go back after a 6 mile run and order the chocolate chip cherry short stack. Drool. We ordered coffees with honey and skim (our normal way) and they also brought out a complimentary basket of homemade cornbread....because obviously mile high plates of pancakes isn't enough bread for one meal. Ummm. Anyway, since I'd selected from the many omelette options and told them that I wanted to forego the pancakes and home fries that normally come with them, I figured I'd indulge in some cornbread. I remembered to take the pic only after I'd already eaten one and half pieces of the ones that had chocolate chips on top. Sorry Gabriel...I did not share those very well at all. Our meals came out soon after and my omelette was HUGE. I had the farmer's omelette stuffed with peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, ham and cheese (both of which I asked them to go light on and still got plenty). I am pretty sure that was at least a 5 egg omelette - it was so thick and covered my plate. I was stuffed after a bit less than half and happily had it boxed up to go home. It will make a great breakfast tomorrow after I re-saute it for a few minutes to heat it back up. Gabriel's shrimp, asparagus and Monterey Jack was quite delicious. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly and nicely complemented by the other ingredients much to my surprise. His pancakes were fluffy and beautiful and dusted with a little confectioner's sugar. They were so tasty that they really didn't even need maple syrup on top. His home fries were crunchy and delicious and I'm glad he had ordered them so I could at least have tastes. I also ordered a strawberry/peach/orange juice because the page of fresh squeezed juices sounded way too good to skip. It was sweet, fresh, and somehow a little creamy. I verified with the waitress that no sugar or milk was added and she confirmed that it was purely fruit and a great juicer machine. I would have preferred it to be chilled, it was slightly warm or at best, room temperature. It had wonderful flavor, but at $3.75 I doubt I'll do that again. Our enormous breakfast came out to $26 total, and will absolutely feed us for another 2 meals. I really enjoyed our morning here, along with the 1.5 mile walk each way to burn some of it off. It's really a country-bumpkin feeling place with warm staff and an eager crowd who seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did. Now that we now how pleasant it is, we will surely return more often.

I will say this place had a plentiful variety of pancakes to choose from, 84 to be exact. I tried the Positively Pecan with dusting of powdered sugar and cinnimon, and to my dismay did not like it at all. 1 bite and i was over it. The batter was dark and thick and spicy, could have been the cinnomon not sure. Didn't like it. I had some of my friends buttermilk (plain) cakes but they were just blah, still a bit thick like a cornmeal consistancy (but not sweetness) and i had to drink my cup of coffee to get the 2 bites down. Bacon was thick and crispy and my friend had a seafood fritatta which he enjoyed. Home fries were a bit soggy. Service was slow, had to wait around for check and didn't get refills on drinks other than coffee (which was often) and the bill was a bit steep for what it was. I wouldn't make a trip down for this place again but for locals it may be a good spot to meet.

I would LOVE to give this place 5 stars, but the service is making it 4. The guy was just all over the place. He kept forgetting everything I asked for. I had to remind him to get splenda, ice, etc. Normally I am not a needy guest, but we were out of sweetener and the OJ was warm (yuck). The food itself was pretty amazing. They have every kind of pancake you could imagine. Also waffle fritatas, and a slew of other items. I had the red white and blue pancakes. That was made with blueberry, banana, and strawberries on top, yummy!!!! I would highly recommend this place, as long as you are going for the food and not the service.

I previously had a decent rating and report for this restaurant, however a few months ago (March 2012) came for a private event and the Owner was incredibly rude to some in our group who ACCIDENTALLY sat at a table which was not part of the designated area for our meeting (there were no signs or indications of where the cut-off portion was). She could have nicely asked for them to please get up and relocate to a different table, but instead she barked at them in a nasty manner. We were shocked and all of us have agreed to never return. Her manner was un-called for and inexcusable. We were a group of lovely adults that know how to act, did not deserve this treatment. By the way, she maintained her crappy facial expression the entire time we were there. Then, we waited forever for the food which was in many cases wrong or cold when arrived. My hamburger had ZERO seasoning, and I was really hungry, so that was very disappointing, my fries were ice cold. Didn't appreciate the crappy food. I heard some other complaints at our table about the lack of food quality and seasoning, so I wasn't the only one. After the event I went to pay for my lousy hamburger and I did complain to her about her ugly manner and she gruffly brushed me off in an annoyed manner. WOW that's how to treat your customers???? It's done. We will NEVER will we set foot in her restaurant again.

Food was okay. Huge portions, but the pankcakes we're very good. Sad since it's a pancake house. Nothing was really seasoned or flavorful. I expected more and left feeling unsatisfied.

Worst breakfast house ever. Dirty dishes, multiple go backs, incompetent manager & below mediocre food. Go to Station 400 instead.

Rude rude rude does not begin to describe the owner and staff of this place. We have eaten here a couple of times and found the food good so we took some friends to breakfast here last week. The server was terrible. Never came back to the table to ask how we were or if we needed drinks or anything. I finally had to ask someone else for more ice tea which came back without any ICE. I ask u who serves ice tea without ice. At the end we tried to get our check and she just walked right past us several times refilling coffees never once coming to our table to ask if my husband wanted any. My husband had to get up from the table to as for the check. We went yo pay and the owner asked how everything was. I proceeded to tell her how crappy the service was and the service was listening which I was hoping she would she came out with a smirk on her face and said "have a nice day in a vet sarcastic voice. I really felt like slapping the smirk off of her face. My friend tried to pay after me and the owner said what did he have to drink. He said just water. She did not believe him. She through his debit card at him and went to see the server. He said "am I the only person to have water with a meal" and she said yes. She would only a vet cash refused his debit card because she said she was nt sure what he had to drink if that makes any spence at all. This was our friend first experience there and they will never go back again. We won't either and I will tell everyone I know and that is a lot of people never to eat there again.

YES FOR VARIETY AND HUGE FOOD PORTIONS! Anytime I have a hankering for pancakes or restaurant dining with leftovers that easily last for 3-4 days, this place fills that need and gives you good food for the money. On top of that, you get chocolate chip cornbread that are so good that they are actually eaten by people usually averse to cornbread (AKA me). Any pancake here is a good choice. The potato pancakes here and the country fried platter with fried shrimp, chicken strips, fish, and fall-off-the bone ribs are bomb-diggity choices. Be prepared to bring your appetite and make use of the plastic take home boxes. You won't regret it=)

I have eaten here several times in the past (read two or more years ago) food was good and plenty at the time, however, I was planning on taking my family here for breakfast but reading the negative reviews on the terrible service has turned me off of returning. Really not interested in anyone's attitude.

Wonderful presentation! It ends there though .,, someone forgot food must have taste. Beyond bland is the only way to put it. Like the enormous pancakes that taste like cardboard and fruit dish breakfast with lettuce! The place has potential but isn't executing!

DO NOT EAT HERE. I'm very laid back when it comes to restaurants, and this place was horrible. I ordered the bagel with lox and when it came out the salmon was mushy, discolored, dried out on the sides, and had the worst odor you could imagine. I was super polite when I explained that the salmon was bad and asked if I could just get the tuna salad (instead of the rotten salmon) and a fresh bagel since the salmon was on the bagel and the juices were saturated into the bagel. They did exchange the salmon for tuna salad although they did not change the plate, and the owner refused to give me a new bagel and said they would have to charge me for it! My fiancé has worked in the food industry for 10 years and was absolutely disgusted at the protocol this place took in this incident. Rotten fish is no joke, and you can get very sick from consuming it or things it has touched (the bagel and the plate). We will never eat here again after this kind of rude, thoughtless treatment. And just to be clear, the waitress was amazing and did all she had the power to do to help us. This review is specifically aimed at the owner of this restaurant and her ridiculous behavior and bad sanitation practices/low food standards.

I only ended up here because Another Broken Egg was packed & I wanted to try somewhere different in the area. Man, did I make a huge mistake. 1.) I was seated in what felt like the "we don't like your kind" section. It was isolated & dark! And when I asked my server if I could sit out on the back patio (where there was sunlight & a nice view), she said there were none available (when clearly I saw one table that could have been cleaned) AND she didn't even bother to offer to sit me at a table near a window or open patio. But you'll see from the photos I posted that there was a table available near the patio where another family was seated well after I came in. 2. I ordered a "short" order of pecan pancakes which was still overwhelmingly large. Not only were they disgustingly large but lacked flavor & pecans; I'd also like to mention they were weirdly was doughy. Not good at all! What a waste?! 3. This place gets one star because I don't have a choice & I guess it was cool that they offered complimentary boxed Jiffy cornbread with chocolate chips on top. 4. Overpriced garbage food with low-class service.

Service=horrible, food=horrible... Atmosphere= hot and horrible. Told waiter that we were hot" I know, I tell them all the time, they won't fix it ". They have this novelty thing about making these really big pancakes... Other than that... Nothing. 2 hours and 55$ later four of us left hot... And not happy.

The single worst breakfast experience in Lakewood Ranch. There was not one redeeming quality about this place. It wasn't even cheap. - The place is dank and mildly dirty. - The corn bread they bring to the table is stale. - The pancakes are like eating sawdust mixed with water. - The service from both our waiter and the dragon hostess was inept bordering on rude - The hash browns were not even edible Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Anywhere.

I enjoy a hardy breakfast but this was beyond ridiculous portions. No one could finish their breakfast not even the men at the table. It was a complete waste of food. We all had to get to go boxes but who wants leftover breakfast food. Makes me wonder how much food this place waste on a daily basis. Food was what you find in a typical american diner. Nothing special except for the portion size. I would recommend sharing.

Today's waffle was delicious and I decided to order a cold pressed beer, spinach, & grapefruit juice and a side order of bacon. I sent my bacon back due to the over doneness as bacon here is not made to order it is made in later batches and reheated. As for my juice they forgot the beets so the tartness of grapefruit is what is tasted like.

I wasn't too impressed when we walked in. I had heard they had really good pancakes. The restaurant reminded me of a cafeteria atmosphere without the cafeteria. Lol It was very loud in the place. So much I went outside and waited until my food was ready, but the menu is vast full of pancakes. Unfortunately there are no grits on the menu nor country fried steak which limited my decision being I like pancakes but do not love them. My eggs were not over easy more like fried with a yolk. Bacon was eh and sausage was ok. Ham was just two slices of deli meat fried. Hash browns were half cooked and the half that was were mushy. Lol. Now the pancakes. They were heavy and not fluffy with lots of powdered sugar on them. I will not be returning to this place but if you like mediocre food then have at it. Cheers.

Food was awesome as well as our service. However, while standing in line with my friends and other customers, the owner would not let me pay my bill with my charge card because my bill was not over ten dollars. When I told her I had no cash she asked me to get someone to lend me the cash. What an embarrassment that was! That's not how you stay in business. I would easily give a 5 star for the food and service but.......

Little more on the pricier side for Breakfast, but nice atmosphere. The menu is gigantic, little overwhelming for a breakfast place. Food was very disappointing. Pancakes tasted like they were frozen and microwaved. Sucked the moisture from your mouth. Service staff was friendly, but not very attentive. I will not be back to this place for breakfast. Worth a shot at a different place, but will stick with Peaches (Much better food and service at a better price).

We will never come back. Horrible service. I had to fill our table's coffee and water every time. Even when staff saw me going to their drinks station no one tried to help or apologize! My sausage egg cheese and jalapeño breakfast was over cooked and bland. The country potatoes were also flavorless. I always clean my breakfast plate and I wouldn't finish half of this sad meal. Everyone's pancakes were dry and bland. In the end when I was asked how everything was and I brought up each of these points with my server all I received was a deer in the headlights look and a lame 'sorry'. Nothing what so ever was tried to keep our business. I agree with other reviews, please produce a little quality instead of huge disappointing portions.

    (1)
  • Kelly G.

Without a doubt, they have the worst pancakes that I've ever had. We each tried several different kinds and they were all thick, heavy, VERY dry and lacking flavor. How on earth do you make such a dry pancake?? On a positive note, the service was good and the portions are very large. Unfortunately, quality is more important than quantity. Also, it was Sunday morning and they were half empty. We wouldn't try again.

    (2)
  • Toni T.

Super large portions, super bad service. Our waiter spent most of the time at our table playing with his hair...never came back after we got our food, asked another waiter to find him, still no show, had to go find him ourselves (at hostess stand flirting with cashier) not a single person, including manager asked how anything was. Not incentivized to return.

    (2)
  • Niki P.

This was my 2nd time there- 1st time no problem - food was ok- not great- this 2nd time was a disaster- we walked out after an hour of not getting our food- the waiter told us there was a computer glitch instead of sayin he forgot to enter it- either way he never even came back to chk on us - he told us 10 min - and still no food- he isn't bother to tell the mgr there was an issue - there were all kids running the place - so I'm not sure why I'm surprised it was such bad service -

    (2)
  • Craig A.

Disappointing. They serve corn bread with chocolate chips with the meal. Interesting, but not fresh. Pancakes stiff as a board, but would probably be acceptable for skeet shooting. Omelet enormous but cheese inside uncooked. Would have preferred quality to quantity. Did I mention the service was haughty? Skip this place.
